The Prairie Preserve will be an exciting new community-based learning centre dedicated to resilient urban living in a prairie environment. People of all ages, stages and wages will have fun engaging in practical, hands-on activities about how to create environmental solutions at the household and community level.
Nested within TwinHills the Prairie Preserve overlooks an eight acre wetland visible from SE 17 Avenue. It is a focal point within the network of green spaces and corridors that link the natural landscape and neighbourhoods. The approximately two acre Prairie Preserve site is comprised of four parts that work together:
1. The Interpretive Centre – an indoor educational facility comprised of recycled farm buildings
2. The Community Courtyard – a multi-use event space nested in the Centre to host workshops, speakers, classes and community events
3. The Learning Landscape – demonstration gardens and research test plots for interactive education.
4. The Research Laboratory – science gathering and field station facility for industry and academia alike
