Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development
As a pioneer, TwinHills applied to be part of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED-ND pilot program when it was announced in 2007 and continues to this day to be a USGBC member and a reciprocal member of the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC). During the 2007 pilot LEED-ND USGBC project, OpenGate the developer of TwinHills utilized one of the top urban planning authorities in the USA, Matt Raimi of Raimi + Associates, a Berkeley CA-based planning firm for its in-service on LEED-ND in which they compared LEED-ND to the City of Calgary Sustainability Principles. Since this time, TwinHills has monitored the progress of LEED-ND and has appropriately modified its design and sustainability principles to reflect the updating of new criteria added to the charter LEED-ND standards. By using the combination of OpenGate’s 5 Bottom Line design and USGBC LEED-ND, TwinHills goes beyond the current developing requirements promoting smart growth, smart locations and smart development. OpenGate will submit for LEED-ND certification in the near future as it is now in the final Calgary land approval stages.
